Each ENFJ result has subtle differences, which can be captured through subtypes.

What variations exist within type ENFJ?

The MBTI result of ENFJ can be broken down further to reveal a more nuanced personality profile. Have you had a Myers Briggs result ENFJ and thought "that's kind of me"? The four letters of the 16 types model (for example Myers Briggs®) are a useful shorthand to describe personality types. If you want a little more detail it's possible to look at subtypes.

Two variants of extroversion: gregarious and assertive

Extraverts broadly display one of two interpersonal styles, gregarious or assertive. Gregarious extraverts are highly social and warm, thriving on positive interpersonal communication. Assertive extraverts are dominant and direct, welcoming interpersonal conflict and making their will know to those around them.

Two variants of intuition: creative and unorthodox

Intuitives can be broadly defined as being either creative, or unorthodox. Creative Intuitives focus on new ideas or innovations, focusing on improvement in the conventional sense. Unorthodox Intuitives, however, take a more abstract and unconventional approach to problem-solving, identifying unusual solutions.

    Eg-Nu-Fw-Jm

    Eg: The extraverted-gregarious type like to be magnanimous and warm, eagerly seeking interpersonal connections with other people to increase their social circle.

    Nu: The intuitive-unorthodox type are out of the box thinkers, able to think abstractly and unconventionally with ease and fluidity.

    Fw: The feeling-warm type are compassionate, readily helping their family and friends in moments of struggle and pain; a motive that impacts all the decisions they make.

    Jm: The judging-methodical type are followers of process, preferring a rigid, structured and ordered approach. This can mean that they oppose more chaotic or spontaneous approaches.

Subtypes: Dichotomies within dichotomies

Research shows that the traditional four dichotomies are in fact multidimensional and nuanced, displaying at least two distinct variants which we call subtypes. The addition of subtypes provides a richer and more accurate picture of an individual's personality, while retaining the many advantages of the simple 16 type model as used in the MBTI Test. By understanding your subtype, you learn about the behavioral styles which separate you from others who share your overall type.
