Enneagram 1w9 - Type 1 Wing 9

What is an Enneagram Type 1w9? illustration of the reformer type one

Page contents:

Type Ones are driven in life to make positive change throughout the world. Type Nines are trusting, supportive, and are driven by wanting to create harmony and remove conflict. In the Enneagram, Type Ones are adjacent to Type Nines. Therefore, some Type Ones share a few of the behavioral tendencies of Type Nines. These are known as Type Ones with a Nine-wing, or Type 1w9.

What is an Enneagram 1w9?

Summary of Type 1w9 and what it means

Type Ones are known as “Reformers” because they are always looking for ways to improve the world, have influence, assert pressure and affect change. Type Nines are known as “Peacemakers” because they have an innate desire to resolve conflict and create harmony. A Nine-wing adds these qualities to a Type One personality. This means that a Type 1w9 will desire to bring about social change, but will be more introverted in behavior and less confrontational. This can make Type 1w9 well-mannered and reserved, but also very critical and judgmental of others and the world around them. As a result, Enneagram 1w9 Types are called “Idealists”.

However, unlike “Reformers”, a Nine-wing may struggle to follow through with their principles if it requires more overt extraversion, which can lead them to appear as detached or impersonal. It can also be difficult for them if they are being challenged or criticized as 1w9s try to avoid conflict. This can mean that “Idealists” find difficulty in tolerating negativity and may sometimes be dismayed by the world not living up to their high standards.

Remember, an Enneagram 1w9 is still a core Type One, so they are generally calm and collected people. They have strong principles and aren't as manipulated by their emotions. However, the Nine-wing allows them to be more reserved and harmony seeking.
